چکیده
This paper investigates the nature and use of existing tools during a design task as a means of gathering information concerning practitioners’ conception of that activity. Three case studies are reported and a number of conclusions are drawn concerning the nature of design tools and in particular the interdependencies revealed between freehand drawing, physical modelling and CAD. The role of visualisation within design is considered in the context of its support by these tools and critically how the various techniques developed by the designers’ impact on their conception of the design activity. The paper concludes by considering the relationship between designer and technology as a co-operative partnership and outlines a number of nascent requirements for the design of technology aimed at supporting the early creative phase of design. q 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. A light-weight Web-at-a-Glance system for intelligent information retrieval
Web-at-a-Glance (WAG) is a system to assist the user in information retrieval and discovery by gleaning the most relevant information from a web site or several web sites. This paper presents this new approach for intelligent information retrieval from web sites, and describes the prototyping of the light-weight WAG system as an active index system. q 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. متن کاملAn incremental retrieval mechanism for case-based electronic fault diagnosis
One problem with using CBR for diagnosis is that a full case description may not be available at the beginning of the diagnosis. The standard CBR methodology requires a detailed case description in order to perform case retrieval and this is often not practical in diagnosis. We describe two fault diagnosis tasks where many features may make up a case description but only a few features are requ...
متن کاملRisk, gap and strength: key concepts in knowledge management
This paper argues that there are certain concepts within the general domain of Knowledge Management that have not been fully explored. The discipline will benefit from a more detailed look at some of these concepts. The concepts of Risk, Gap and Strength are the particular concepts that are explored in some more detail within this paper. A reason for describing these elements as concepts rather...
متن کاملNeuro-fuzzy modelling in support of knowledge management in social regulation of access to cigarettes by minors
In this paper a neuro-fuzzy modelling is proposed to support knowledge management in social regulation. The neuro-fuzzy learning process is based on tacit knowledge in order to highlight what specific steps local government should undertake to reach the outcome with an increase in compliance. An example is given to demonstrate the validity of the approach. Empirical results show the dependabili...
